Richard and Linda Eyre Seminar in Singapore

Richard and Linda Eyre, popular authors of 48 books with many on the #1 Best Selling New York Times list, visited Singapore March 29, 2014 to give a parenting seminar organized by Jamiyah Singapore, the Singapore Soka Association and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Stop giving in to children's demands;  instead, make them earn what they want.  This is some of the advice American parenting gurus Richard and Linda Eyre gave at the Singapore Soka Association.  In one of their latest books, The Entitlement Trap, the Eyres tackle the issue of children feeling entitled to whatever they want.   Parents can start giving things to their children to make up for the time they don't have to spend with them.  Once children get the mentality that 'I deserve anything I want' they lose the incentive and motivation to work for it.  This can affect all aspects of their life.

The Eyres have nine children.  Richard is a Harvard MBA and president of his own consulting company.  Linda is a writer, musician, and co-founder of the International Joy Schools. They have appeared on many national American television shows including Oprah, The Today Show and Sixty Minutes.

Some of the other healthful tips included having family rituals which solidifies families, spending time together in meaningful activities, weekly family meetings, and teaching children responsibility and ownership by giving them jobs to earn money needed.

The Honourable Speaker of Parliament, Mdm Halimah Yacob was the guest of honor.  She introduced the Eyres and afterwards presented a token of appreciation to the Eyres from the officials of Jamiyah, Singapore Soka Association and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
