Church of Jesus Christ Partners Muslim Charity Again to Distribute Rations to Vulnerable Families

Members of the Singapore Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered at the West Coast Community Centre (CC) on December 6, 2025 to distribute 120 ration bags to individuals and families facing financial hardship. The service project, carried out in partnership with People’s Association and local charity Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation (RLAF), aimed to provide essential food supplies and grocery vouchers to residents in need.

The distribution effort was held in conjunction with West Coast CC’s Study Awards ceremony. Heading the distribution efforts after the ceremony was Minister Desmond Lee, who personally handed out the ration bags alongside Church volunteers. As both Minister for Education and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration, Minister Lee’s participation underscored the importance of public-private and community-led collaboration in supporting vulnerable households.

Singapore Stake President Jean-Luc Butel shared, “I think it is a great event where we have community organisers and the Church and others that come together to support great community initiatives. It shows that we are involved in the community for good causes. For the Church, we will continue in the different communities of Singapore to show that we can help in multiple areas.”

This was the sixth time the Church collaborated with RLAF in their Blessings for All initiative. “The initiative stands as a remarkable example of compassion in action, uplifting the community through its thoughtful distribution of grocery vouchers to families in need,” said the Church’s National Communication Director Lavon Lew of the repeat collaboration. “By directly easing the financial burdens of daily living, the foundation not only provides practical support but also strengthens the spirit of unity and care across diverse communities.”

The initiative brought together more than 40 volunteers from the Church and RLAF, including youth and young single adults who had assembled the bags earlier in November in preparation for the distribution. “We thought about what the families will most appreciate having that would be practical that they would use,” said Germaine Lim, who volunteers in the Church’s women’s leadership that helped spearhead the project. Each pack included rice, cooking oil, canned goods, noodles, biscuits, and other daily necessities as well as $60 worth of grocery vouchers.

Residents receiving the ration bags expressed gratitude for the support, while community partners commended the Church’s continued involvement in local welfare efforts. Leaders at West Coast CC noted that such contributions help supplement ongoing assistance programs and ensure vulnerable households receive consistent aid.

“It has been a wonderful opportunity to take part in this service project. I’m grateful for the chance to offer even a small act of kindness, especially with Christmas approaching. This season reminds us to share the light and love of Jesus Christ with everyone,” said Church volunteer driver Raymond Pun, who transported the rations to West Coast CC.

The Singapore Stake has organised similar service projects in recent years, reflecting the Church’s global emphasis on humanitarian outreach and community engagement. Other volunteers shared that taking part in the project was both humbling and meaningful, offering opportunities to connect with residents and express care through simple acts of service.

The Church plans to continue collaborating with local organizations to identify needs and provide additional support where possible through the year.
